Make access and responsibility explicit from the start.

Security decisions belong in the workflow, the code and the operating plan. We agree the relevant controls and review their behavior within the project scope.

No pressure, no hard sell.

Bring your access, data-handling and hosting requirements. We will identify the responsibilities and checks the project needs.

Controls we work through with you

These describe the engineering approach. The implementation and operating responsibilities are agreed for each project.

Access control

We define who may read, change and export records. Important permissions are checked on the server, including administrative paths and background work where relevant. A hidden interface action alone does not establish an access boundary.

Least privilege

Account and service permissions should follow the tasks they need to perform. We separate routine operation from administration and identify the access needed for delivery. Your team reviews exceptions rather than treating broad access as the default.

Secrets handling

Credentials belong in environment configuration or a suitable secret store. We keep them out of application source and ordinary logs. The handover identifies where configuration lives and how credentials can be replaced by an authorized operator.

HTTPS and deployment configuration

The deployment plan accounts for secure transport and the relevant browser and hosting settings. We review the selected environment and its responsibilities. Local development behavior is kept distinct from the requirements of a public production deployment.

Backups and recovery

We agree which records require protection, who owns the backup setup and what restoration needs. Recovery work may include a rehearsal where stated in scope. The handover records the procedure and what was actually exercised; an untested backup is not presented as verified recovery.

Review and validation

Changes are reviewed around the agreed business rules and failure cases. Relevant checks include invalid input and attempts to act outside an account's permissions. We record what the review establishes and any further verification needed for your environment.

We will document the applicable controls and acceptance checks before implementation.

Know who operates each part

Application responsibilities

The project scope identifies the application rules, configuration and review work being delivered. Source code and operating notes explain those boundaries so your team can continue maintaining them.

Hosting and provider responsibilities

A cloud provider does not take over every application decision. We identify account administration, provider dependencies, patching arrangements and configuration ownership for the selected environment.

Post-launch response

Monitoring, incident response and ongoing support need named responsibilities and an agreed scope. A delivery engagement does not silently create continuous response coverage. We discuss the operating arrangement before handover.

We will include an access and operating responsibility map in the agreed handover.

What this website currently implements

A concrete example from this codebase, separate from the scope of a client application.

Server-side enquiry validation

The contact endpoint validates submitted fields, checks supported request formats and applies a request limit. A honeypot filters obvious automated submissions. These controls run on the server rather than relying only on browser validation.

Browser security headers

The website configures a content security policy, frame restrictions, a referrer policy and permissions restrictions. The deployment also configures transport-security headers for forwarded HTTPS requests. The exact policies are available in the repository for review.

Consent-aware analytics

Optional analytics stays off without approval. The consent state controls loading and event handling, with preferences available from the footer. Missing analytics configuration does not enable a tracker by default.

Ask about a required control during scoping so we can agree how it will be implemented and checked.

Questions before we start

Can you work with our security requirements?

Yes. Share the requirements and review process during discovery. We will map them to the proposed application and operating scope, identify dependencies and agree the evidence needed for acceptance. Questions requiring a specialist assessment are recorded so the right reviewer can be involved.

Do you need unrestricted production access?

We agree access against the task being performed. A review or build may use code, prepared examples and a suitable test environment. Where production access is necessary, its permissions and handling are discussed explicitly. Unneeded access is not part of the default request.

How are recovery checks included?

We define the records, environment and recovery procedure relevant to the scope. A rehearsal is included when agreed and when suitable access is available. The result and remaining dependencies are documented, so the handover distinguishes a configured backup from an exercised restoration.

Include your other questions in the enquiry so we can review them during scoping.
